New Islamabad Airport Face No Hindrance to Flight Operation

The New Islamabad International Airport has been in the news since its inception – be it delay in completion, corruption in finance or change in layout. And now there are rumours that Capital Development Authority (CDA) is closing down all the housing societies close to the airport.

In the light of directives of Prime Minister, the government would not allow any kind of construction activity within 200 yards from the New Islamabad International Airport and as such there is no hindrance in the future expansion of the airport and flight operation starting on August 14, 2017.

According to Rule-68 of Civil Aviation Rules-1994, the security requirement of 200 yards beyond airport perimeter as Structure Free Zone shall be applied in case of the New Islamabad International Airport. And the news circulating the market that CDA is shutting down the nearby housing societies are completely baseless.

Presently, the nearest housing society to new airport, is around 200 yards beyond perimeter of the New Islamabad International Airport. Therefore, all residential societies will continue their activities within their present limits. Moreover, there will be no hindrance of construction activity to flying activity or future expansion of the airport.

A notification issued by the Aviation division of the Cabinet Secretariat states that almost an area of seven kilometres in length has been declared as Structure Free Zone towards each approach funnel of the two runways. It shall remain enforce till the security environment improves.

There is no construction or development activity taking place in declared Structure Free Zone towards approach funnel of the two runways. The sources said it had also been decided that the future expansion of the airport in shape of construction of the third runway would also take place towards less expensive area where presently, no housing activity exists there.

The officials have also rejected the impression that the new airport may face any kind of hindrance in its future expansion and the upcoming flight operation.
